California’s Early Start Program

Developmental Support

This program is often times one that your doctor may refer you to if there is a hint of some developmental lag in an area.  The program is government funded and is run with great care.  Developmental assessments are conducted, if you are eligible, physical or occupational therapists may be assigned and programs designed around your child are created.

Their web site is here: http://efrconline.org/

I had a great experience with them when we were referred to them at one point, and I have several friends who similarly have used their services.  Even if there is nothing severe in play, they are an excellent resource to help you make sure.   And, more importantly, if something is going on they have the resources and knowledge to help you figure out the next steps.

Scripps Hospital On-Going Classes

Whether you are looking for that first baby for the birthing class, or other relevant classes when the baby arrives. Scripps offers some good classes including baby sign classes and the Re-directing Children’s Behavior class.  These classes do have fees.  More on the classes here: http://www.scrippshealth.org/Services.asp?ID=322&pID=226

C3 - Children’s Care Connection

This organization was created to help identify developmental challenges in children at a very early age.  They offer sophisticated support for families in the San Diego area.  You can read more about them at http://www.howkidsdevelop.com/index.html.

As a special part of their program, they offer free classes to the public that are terrific.  They offer music classes (showing you how to use instruments and play with toddlers), they have a feeding finesse program that is great for new moms wondering if they are overfeeding, underfeeding, addressing all those concerns, they even offer the "Re-directing Children’s Behavior" class and it used to be free.  I think it still is.

The list of classes can be found here - check it out at http://www.chsd.org/body.cfm?id=986

The current schedules are at this link: http://www.chsd.org/body.cfm?id=985
