I wouldn't use an online service. They don't meet their nannies in person and/or do any screening at all. I signed up with of the more popular online nanny companies and the majority of the nannies were old and didn't return my calls and/or their phones were disconnected. A few I talked with honestly sounded very young and unexperienced or just uninterested. I decided to go with Loving Nannies, a local San Diego agency and they were great. I had to pay a fee BUT all the nannies were wonderful and it made my job super easy. The nannies all had lots of experience, great references and background checks etc. It was well worth it. The hardest part was picking one.

I have used care.com and found the nanny that now watches my 7 month old son. She is an amazing lady and I would recomment the site to anyone. I would for sure spend the money to get the membership so you can view the nannies backround check results and reference phone numbers. The site was easy to cancel once i emailed them and told them i had found a nanny.

As for your question about the quality of nannys. The girl that watchs my son is amazing she just graduated college with her early childhood developement two year degree. She has worked as a nanny a couple timed before as well as in church daycares where i spoke with lady that hired her and did her backround checks and everyone had nothing but wonderful things to say about her. She is wonderful with my son and isnt to expensive either. I love being able to come home from work and my son already be feed, bathed, and in his pjs...that way i get to just read him a book and relax with him before his bedtime.

So, As for my experience it was wonderful with care.com and i will for sure be using it again once my nanny decides she wants to go back and finish her schooling.

My son is currently enrolled in Wonders' Mandarin language class. The owners are absolutely wonderful people,in my experience. One is trained in second language aquisition and fluent in French. Language is definitely her passion,so her interest goes beyond just business. Class size is small, teaching so far is friendly, interactive with some games, and successful. Just mentioning our experience thus far. I really do like the owners. Really nice folks.

I recently went to Little Locks in Carmel Valley. What a great experience! It is a toy boutique/children's hair salon. They also have one in Bird Rock, La Jolla. They have little cars for the kids to sit in and have movies like Thomas the Train and Happy Feet for the kids to watch when they're getting their hair cut. They have video games for the bigger kids. The stylists are really nice and blow bubbles for the kids and distract them if they don't like getting their hair cut. The prices are reasonable and the toys are similar to those sold at Gipettos. It is decorated really cute too. Murals on the walls and kids music playing in the background. We are definately going back. It was my daughter's first haircut and they gave me a cute certificate and keepsake with a lock of her hair.

If you like this book check out: The New First Three Years of Life by Burton L White
Great book! Whereas the What to Expect book looks at your baby from a medical aspect this one focuses on developmental milestones. Gives great advice on what to expect, how to encourage developmental growth and child-rearing best practices.

This is a great book! My prenatal coach recommended it and I will swear by its pages.

Another great book for expectant moms is a 'Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy' by Vicki Iovine. Total sanity lifesaver and helps you understand that you're not the only one.
